My brother (Ted Dittmer) posting a Chuck Norris joke on my timeline reminded me of a boyhood incident.
Our church youth group leader had gathered all the boys in the car and drove us out to a local cemetery. All of us boys were totally clueless about the Catholic tradition of placing slow burning long lasting candles on the graves. Meaning to scare us, our leader screamed, THE LIGHTS!! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!
Most of the boys were screaming and begging Trent, the leader, to skedaddle, except for two: my brother Tim Dittmer and myself. We were begging Trent to stop and let us out so we could investigate the scary phenomenon.
The Dittmers owe this dimwitted courage to their parents. Mom incessantly trained us to never back down from a scary bully. Dad never failed to investigate any curiosity. #rmdo
